Beginning deep in the ocean, this program rises upward—breaking the surface and ultimately soaring into the sky.
As human beings, we don’t naturally inhabit the deep sea or the high atmosphere, which gives us limited direct experience of either realm—but abundant imagination about what life means at each level.
“Blue” takes place at the Stoughton Opera House and features voice, string quartet, string bass, and piano.
The one-hour program, performed without intermission, includes works by John Cage, Kaija Saariaho, Maurice Ravel, Florence Price, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Franz Schubert.
Musicians:
David Perry, violin
Alex Norris, violin
Madlen Breckbill, viola
Phil Bergman, cello
Laura Perry, Bass & voice
Micah Behr, Piano

Sonder
(n.) — A term coined by John Koenig in The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, describing the profound realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own — filled with their own ambitions, routines, worries, and unseen stories

Inspired by the definition above, this program alternates between the voice of the individual and the response of the many. At the core lies a fight to be understood, and the gradual emergence of compassion through imagination.

Taking place at the Chorus Public House, Sonder features a string sextet plus voice, sitting in a circle at the center of the room. Book-ended by two original compositions by Micah Behr, the program moves through works that span decades including compositions by Handel, Brahms, Ligeti, Satie, Dutilleux and Caroline Shaw.
Musicians:
Sarah Brailey, Voice

Madlen Breckbil, violin

Laila Zakzook, viola

Aaron Fried, cello

Winter Season

Written by Madison composer Micah Behr, Visible Light basks in the subtlety of nature’s light. This work was inspired by a collaboration with Madison based filmmaker Alejandro Miranda, and the artistry in which he captures light. Using this collaboration as a starting point, Visible Light is a ~60 min program for piano quintet created by Micah Behr, inviting contemplation with light as our form of hope.

Location:
Geneva Campus Church 401 N Blackhawk Ave, Madison, WI

Date:

Join us for our beloved tradition of coming together on the Winter Solstice– the longest night of the year. A layering of compositions and arrangements by Micah Behr nurture all that we carry with us in the darkness. The program consists of a cohesive mix of classical and folk music for string quartet and voice.  All in all, the smell of wood at Grand Inspired mixed with the beauty of music and the warmth of togetherness has made this annual event a Dane County gem.
